about.
As part of my master studio project, I explored future office scenarios and their impact on workplace dynamics. Together with 11 design students and our supervisors, Prof. Dr. Katja Thoring and Prof. Hermann Klöckner, we conducted a Delphi study using scenario techniques and expert surveys to predict how offices might evolve. One key insight was the shift towards a Social Office, where offices serve as spaces for collaboration and socialization while deep-focus work happens remotely. Based on this thesis, I developed Lunch-Box-Together, a hybrid meal preparation system designed to foster informal connections between employees through shared meal experiences, both digitally and physically.
challenge.
The main challenge was designing a system that encourages social interaction in hybrid work environments while respecting the flexible work culture emerging post-pandemic. Many employees no longer spend full days in the office, making it difficult to recreate spontaneous interactions like lunch breaks. Additionally, the system had to balance engagement, convenience, and logistical feasibility, ensuring that employees could participate without disrupting their workflow. Another challenge was integrating a gamified digital experience that feels natural and rewarding while maintaining the efficiency of meal delivery.
result.
Lunch-Box-Together successfully bridges the gap between remote and in-office employees by turning lunch into a collaborative social experience. The system allows employees to digitally co-create meals via an app, form “digital kitchens” with colleagues, and engage in meal preparation tasks. Once finalized, meals are professionally prepared by the Lunch-Box-Together company and delivered to the office in flexible, compartmentalized lunch boxes. This approach strengthens workplace relationships, fosters a sense of belonging, and redefines the office as a space for meaningful social interactions.
